Three teenagers were found dead in a Texas home in an apparent double murder-suicide, authorities said.
The bodies of two 17-year-old girls and a 15-year-old boy were discovered by a relative Tuesday at a home in Crosby outside Houston, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told reporters.
“It appears that this case may be a case of a double homicide and a suicide,” Gonzalez said at a press conference outside the rural residence. “Those are the preliminary observations that I have.”
A relative who lives next door went to the home and made the grim discovery, Gonzalez said.
“They came to the location, they did not get a response,” the sheriff said.
Two of the victims are possibly related and the third may be a friend or an acquaintance, Gonzalez said. None of the victims’ identities were immediately released.
“We don’t know the full connection at this point,” Gonzalez said. “It’s still all very preliminary.”
A firearm apparently involved in the incident was found inside the home. Two of the victims’ bodies were found together in the residence, while the third was discovered elsewhere, Gonzalez said.
Investigators were working to contact the homeowner, who is out of town on travel, according to the sheriff.
“These are always highly charged, very emotional,” Gonzalez said. “We understand that. Our condolences go out to the family.”

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive in the shooting deaths, as well as the relationship between the three victims. There’s no ongoing threat to the community, Gonzalez said, adding that the deaths were “senseless” and tragic.
Neighbors in the rural community, meanwhile, told KHOU they were shocked by the suspected double murder-suicide.
“It’s really surprising to see something like this happen out here to one of us,” resident David Givans told the station. “Out here it’s a close community for the most part. We all watch out for each other.”
