Victims found dead in Milwaukee home were shot ‘execution-style’

Six people found dead at a Milwaukee home during a welfare check were gunned down “execution-style,” according to a relative of the victims.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the five men and one woman late Monday after they were discovered fatally shot during a welfare check Sunday at a duplex near North 21st and West Wright streets, WISN reported.

The victims were identified as Caleb Jordan, 23, Javoni Liddell, 31, Charles Hardy, 42, Donald Smith, 43, Donta Williams, 44, and Michelle Williams, 49.

“We were told it was execution-style,” Michelle Williams’ cousin, Tiffany Cole-Whittington, told the station of the slayings.

It’s unclear how long the six victims were dead before they were discovered, the station reported. Cole-Whittington said her cousin’s husband and brother-in-law were among those fatally shot.

“There was no bad bone in her body,” Cole-Whittington said of Williams. “She was not a bad person by any means. She would give, and give and give.”

Milwaukee police declined to respond to Cole-Whittington’s account Tuesday, but said detectives continue to seek “unknown” suspects in the killings.

“There are no new updates to provide at this time as this remains an ongoing investigation,” a police spokesperson wrote in an email.

Department officials have not said if they believe the suspected shooter was among the victims found dead, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Donta and Michelle Williams, along with Donald Smith, lived at the residence, according to medical examiner records cited by the newspaper.

“She didn’t deserve this — in her own home,” Cole-Whittington told WITI of her cousin and the macabre crime scene. “When they got there, they said the smell — the stench — was so overpowering. Neighbors said they had been smelling it for a few days.”

Cops were called to the duplex as recently as September for a report of drug dealing, the Journal Sentinel reported. A 24-year-old man was then fatally shot in October at the corner of North 21st and West Wright streets, according to the report.

There’s no evidence to suggest an ongoing threat to the community, Milwaukee Assistant Police Chief Paul Formolo told reporters at a press conference Sunday. He did not disclose a possible motive in the slayings.

Milwaukee saw a record 197 homicides last year, and the most recent slaying has left many residents “saddened, angry and shaken,” one local elected official said.

“There are no words to accurately describe the feelings of the community at the continuing violence, but one thing remains perfectly clear,” Alderman Russell Stamper II said in a statement Monday. “We must do better.”
