An
empty tank from a nuclear training reactor is being moved over the road
in Pennsylvania over the next two weeks. Nine days to move 400 miles
they figure. The truck-trailer combination is 213 feet long. It weighs
294 tons. Normal max weight is 40 tons. The custom built low-boy
heavy hauler rig is two lanes wide. Speed limit is 30 mph. I hope the
tractor doesn't break down.
I
remember when they moved a large, heavy load from Stockton to the Bay
Area for the bridge rebuild they had to take it over some back roads
because they were afraid the overpasses couldn't handle the weight and
they had a spare tractor leading the parade so if the first one broke
down they wouldn't have to wait to move the thing and it wasn't NEARLY
as big of heavy as this. You could make one or two episodes of Ice Road
Truckers of Highway Thru Hell out of this move.
