The Huey P. Newton Gun Club was founded in 2014 based solely on phony issues of police brutality Blacks faced in the City of Dallas

It has been brought to the attention of GMPA that there is a police cadet who has ties to Micah Xavier Johnson, the man responsible for ambushing 5 Dallas Police Officers in 2016, currently enrolled in the Galveston College Law Enforcement Academy. Micah was a member of the HPNGC, a civilian militia organization named after the Black Panther Party founder Huey P. Newton. According to an online article on LeoAffairs, the co-founder of HPNGC has made comments in reference to the slain Dallas Police Officers such as "I have no remorse for the Dallas Police Officers shot downtown...It's about time." (Writer 2018)

It was discovered that the current police cadet enrolled in Galveston College (GC) has conducted firearms training with the HPNGC organization and also has an arrest for Aggravated Assault in another state. When College of the Mainland (COM) Police Academy Director Dan Blackford brought this to the attention of both COM and GC, COM fired Dan Blackford. The major concern is that police training and tactics are being taught to an individual who has ties to an anti-police organization. The tie between GC and COM is that GC uses COM's gun range for firearms training, which Blackford instructs. Upon COM"s cowardly decision to fire Blackford, the Galveston College Police Academy Director and several other instructors have resigned.

Dan Blackford has been a well-respected firearms instructor and academy director for many years. Blackford has trained police officers from all over the state and is a mentor to many. The Galveston Municipal Police Association hopes that Galveston College and College of the Mainland will take this matter seriously and take into consideration who they provide law enforcement training to.

GMPA Stands with Blackford.
