Absolutely no one will be surprised that CNN and its senior international anchor, Christiane Amanpour, misrepresented and distorted the facts in order to blame Israel for this week’s violence at the Temple Mount.

This brand of fake news disguised as legitimate mainstream reporting has become par for the course.

But this time Amanpour faced not a little resistance from the target of her slanderous accusations: Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.

Parroting other international outlets like the BBC, Amanpour suggested that the Temple Mount tensions began with and were the direct result of Israeli police arbitrarily entering the Al Aqsa Mosque.

Why do Israeli police forcibly enter Al Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest site, when they know how sensitive an issue it is to Palestinians and Muslims everywhere, wondered Amanpour.

The implication was clear: Israel purposefully provoked the present violent flare-up.

Bennett fired right back, calling out the campaign of misinformation spearheaded by the likes of CNN.

“There you go again, starting the story in the middle,” said the Israeli leader.

Israeli police of course did not arbitrarily entered the mosque. They did so only after violent elements barricaded themselves and launched attacks from inside Al Aqsa. The action was as much in service to the majority of peaceful Muslim worshippers as anyone else.

Ample evidence posted to social media showed young Palestinian Muslims stockpiling stones and other crude weapons in preparation for a fight with Israeli police. And a number of video clips showed older Muslim berating the youngsters for disrupting Ramadan by attacking the police.

All of this is easy to find and investigate, or at the very least present to viewers in order to provide a balanced report. That’s what one might expect from such a seasoned journalist.

The fact that she instead simply read from the list of Hamas accusations as her talking points says everything you need to know about CNN and Christiane Amanpour.
