IDF Opens Fire on Stone Throwers – 1 Palestinian Killed
The new right-wing government has not yet been sworn in, but the army already seems to be taking a tougher stand on terror.
Israelis have for some time been demanding that the army take more decisive action against Palestinian stone throwers
Israeli forces opened fire on Saturday night at a group of Palestinians who the army said were throwing stones at Israeli cars near the town of Sinjil in Samaria. One assailant was killed.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, several Israeli cars traveling on Route 60, the main north-south highway in Judea and Samaria, were damaged by stone throwing in the area.
Troops stationed nearby attacked a group of suspected stone-throwers, the military said.
One of the Palestinians was killed and another seriously injured.
According to the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health, the Palestinian killed is 18-year-old Musab Nofal from the city of al-Mazra’a ash-Sharqiya. The seriously injured man was treated by Israeli army medics and taken to Jerusalem hospital.
The Palestinians who throw stones at passing cars are no less dangerous than those who are armed with bombs or firearms. Tougher crackdowns on such terrorists have long been called for, but the army has so far acted indecisively.
