In this first-in-the-nation move the parents of the shooter at Oxford High School have been charged in the case.
There is no doubt that Ethan Crumbley shot up Oxford High School about four months ago. Four died and seven others were wounded. The appeals court is now trying to decide if Oakland County can indeed try James and Jennifer Crumbley for purchasing a weapon for their son and not letting the school know about it when they clearly knew or reasonably should have known that he was fucking crazy.
Young Crumbley copped to all charges last year. His parents are facing manslaughter charges. They admit they bought the gun for him that he used in the murders despite the fact that he was having hallucinations and other troubling mental health issues. Ethan was 15 at the time and was charged as an adult.
As far as I can tell the parents basic defense is they were shitty parents, which isn't illegal (true, within reason). The prosecution asserts they had a legal obligation to inform the school that he had access to a gun. Their basis for that assertion isn't real clear.
The matter is under consideration by the appeals court.

I was around 8 when my father bought me a single shot .410 shotgun. We hunted doves. I gave that .410 to my daughter who was better at cleaning doves than shooting them. The .410 is now in her family's gun safe. Good memories.
