A mom revealed that $10,000 left her bank account

Whitney Manicchia revealed that $10,000 left her bank account

She received a phone call informing her of transactions that were supposedly happening at an ATM in Georgia, per the NBC affiliate KCBD.

Manicchia admitted she initially didn’t suspect anything out of the ordinary.

“It sounds like a really normal call with my bank,” she said.

She thought her card would be frozen while the bank took the appropriate safety steps.

But it turned out that scammers had spoofed the caller ID to make it look like a representative from Discover, her bank.

The money vanished from Manicchia’s account around 30 minutes after the call ended.

“That’s not my money. My savings accounts that they took that money from were my kids' savings accounts,” she said in a TikTok video while fighting back tears.

“I have saved every penny that my kids have gotten – from grandparents, aunts, and uncles - and put it into savings accounts to give my kids something and it’s gone.”

Manicchia said she was proud of the money that her children had saved.

She revealed a Discover representative said they would try to do a wire recall in a bid to recover the funds.

“If it does not come back, there’s nothing they can do,” Manicchia said.

She revealed that the bank told her it would get her money back.

The U.S. Sun has approached Discover for comment.

Manicchia is not the only bank user who has fallen victim to a scam.

In May 2023, Katie Callaway, who banks with Wells Fargo, saw thousands wiped from her account after receiving a message to confirm her details.

Joshua Capps, of Alabama, said he’s fighting to recover more than $170,000 after the sum was drained from his company’s bank account.
