Robert Adrian was a judge in Adams County, Illinois until Friday. He was actually thrown off the bench by the Illinois
Courts Commission for indulging his own personal feelings rather than
the law.
He reversed a
man's conviction for raping a 16-year old girl. He voiced the opinion
that the 148 days he served was enough, that the mandatory 4 years was
excessive and let him walk. The commission found that that, among other
instances of professional stupidity, was more than enough to justify
throwing Adrian off the bench immediately. He could have been given a
censure or suspension without pay or even a reprimand.
Adrian
asserted that this was what happened when parents let their children
swim in their underwear and drink alcohol. Adrian asserted that he
overturned the guilty verdict because the prosecutors failed to meet
their burden of proof.
