A REPUBLICAN MIGHT WIN CALIFORNIA PRIMARY...SORT-OF

By Bob Walsh

Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat of California, during a hearing at the Capitol in Washington, on June 21, 2022. (J. Scott Applewhite/AP)

Steve Garvey is running for the senate from California.  He is now polling very slightly ahead of Adam (shit for brains) Schiff and the other two Democrat-Socialists in the race.  Schiff WANTS to run against Garvey in the general election.  He does NOT want to run against another Democrat, even though he is polling well ahead of both of them.

It appears that there is a fair bit of Democrat money behind Garvey to make sure that happens.  In the meantime Schiff is trying really hard to look like a regular guy, mister nice guy.  His advertising is crowding out pretty much everything else on the tube.

In an interesting turn there are actually TWO senate elections from CA this year.  One of them will fill the seat for just as matter of weeks due to the death of DiFi and an appointment to fill the seat.  The appointment seat went to satisfy Gavin Newsom's liberal check list when he appointed a Black lesbian to fill DiFi's seat.  That gig goes away on election day.  The other will fill the seat for the full six-year term after the shorty seat is filled and then vacated.  Assuming the same person hits both of them that person will have several weeks of seniority ahead of any other newcomers that may be coming into the senate in 2025.  That could be a big deal.

The chances of Garvey winning are minimal.  They are, however, not zero.  It will be interesting to see what sort of power (money) and what sort of message is put into the general election assuming that goes down to Schiff v Garvey.  Schiff is a sleazy asshole and everybody, including the Democrats, know it.  That doesn't mean they won't elect him.  Our elections have gotten increasingly tribal over the years.  A lot of people don't care about qualifications or personality.  They care about D or R.  That's it.  Nothing else.
