Turning point of World War II: D-Day and its aftermath

This marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day.  The largest military assault in modern history.  Something like 160,000 allied troops hit the beach on one day (if you include the parachutists and glider attacks).  They managed to keep the whole thing secret, unimaginable and impossible these days, difficult but doable then.  There was a massive disinformation campaign including the creation of two fictional armies whose targets were Norway and the Pas de Calais.  It worked.  It was incredible.  The good guys won.  The bad guys eventually lost.  The cost was huge.  The cost of not doing so would have been even more huge.

The ranks of the greatest generation are becoming thinner and thinner every day.  Very few are still alive who can honestly say I WAS THERE, I DID THAT. They deserve our honor and respect.
