A 14-year old girl from Ukraine is facing charges after beating her 80-year old grandmother to death with a belt and a walker. The young lady, Sofia Koval, has been charged with manslaughter in the death. She is being held without bond at the Broward County Slammer.
This mess went down on May 23 of this year. When the cops showed up they found one of the the dead woman's sons, Hevheniia Koval, on the scene. He asserted that he found his mom unresponsive in the living room. The autopsy revealed multiple injuries.
Sofia's father, who lived with the grandmother, attributed his daughter's recent "acting out" as stress trauma relating to her experiences in the Ukraine and her separation from her mother. Daddy confiscated her cell phone shortly before the young lady allegedly beat granny to death. During transport the young lady confessed to the killing, stating that granny was dying anyway.
Sofia has recently been in a nut farm due to what might be termed psychotic behavior. If convicted she could get as much as 15 years, though it seems likely that she will, if convicted, be sentenced thru the juvenile justice system.
