Gavin Newsom, the God-Emperor of the formerly great state
of California, called a special session of the legislature very
recently to "help out" the gasoline business in California. The
assembly came back in to session. The senate said "pound sand" at the
time.
The assembly has
passed emergency legislation. The senate is coming into emergency
session in about ten days to consider the bill.
Gavin
thinks that "big oil" is being mean to California. He wishes to
MANDATE that "big oil" build significant storage capacity for refined
gasoline so that it can be let out into the market during maintenance
shutdowns to smooth out price spikes. The spokespeople for "big oil"
point out that these large storage tanks cost about $35 million each,
have to be individually permitted, are difficult to site and take time
to build. Gavin doesn't care, he wants to be seen to be "standing up to
big oil." Of course what he really wants to do is to drive the
gasoline industry out of California to force people to buy electric cars
since they won't be able to fuel gasoline vehicles.
I wonder if the governor's limo is electric? I somehow doubt it.
