NEW ORLEANS, LA - On Friday, February 7th, authorities announced that a woman with a history of "drugging men" and "stealing their credit cards" was arrested after the death of a TV reporter who was in New Orleans for the upcoming Super Bowl.

According to NBC News, during a press conference Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley told reporters that hotel security video shows the woman, Danette Colbert, with Kansas City Telemundo's Adam Manzano entering his room at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5th.

Colbert lives in nearby Sidell and is allegedly known for drugging men and stealing their credit cards. Detectives discovered that the credit card Manzano used to check into the Comfort Suites was not on his person or in the hotel room. Kenner police said that Colbert used Manzano's credit card at "several stores in the New Orleans area."

Police said that Colbert has been charged with property crimes, including fraud and theft-related offenses. However, the investigation remains ongoing and authorities have not yet stated how Manzano died. Conley said, "You asked if this was a homicide. I don't know where it's going to end up. We're going to let the evidence lead us to the end result and not speculate."

He added, "As soon as the coroner finishes with his findings and they will classify it as either homicide or whatever death the evidence leads him to and then these charges could be upgraded." Police said no drugs or contraband were found in Manzano's hotel room.

Police said that the suspect has an arrest record that includes "allegations of drugging men, theft of currency, fraudulent use of credit and debit cards, and other financial crimes." Prior to the arrest of Colbert, police said that "anyone who may recognize Danette Colbert and has any information regarding her involvement in these crimes" is asked to call investigators.

In 2022, Conley said that while in Nevada Colbert was charged with "introducing a substance, a foreign substance" into a victim. He also said that the other victim she allegedly did this to was in Jefferson Parish. That incident happened about two years ago, as noted by Conley.

WWTLV reported that court records show that Colbert has been arrested in New Orleans at least six times over the past 12 years for crimes including theft, bank fraud, and second-degree battery.

Colbert has been booked on suspicion of simple robbery, access device fraud, illegal transmission of monetary funds, bank fraud, and computer fraud. Telemundo New Orleans News Director Mike Berenguer said he was supposed to meet Manzano for an interview at the Morial Convention Center, but he never showed up.

Berenguer said, "He was a really good reporter. I think he had a good future in this job and this is unfortunately a thing that sometimes happens." Manzano's death comes just a few months after his wife, Ashleigh Boyd, was killed in a car crash in Topeka. Boyd was just 24-years-old at the time of death and was a second-grade teacher. The couple have a young daughter who survived the car crash.
