JUDGE ISSUES PERMANENT INJUNCTION AGAINST SHERIFF OVER CCW POLICY

by Bob Walsh

United States District Court Judge Dean D. Pergerson has just issued a permanent injunction against Stanley Sniff, the (former) Sheriff of Riverside County, CA. over his highly restrictive policy on the issuance of CCW permits. Sheriff Sniff lost his re-election campaign to Chad Bianco, the current Sheriff. The order is valid against the Sheriff's Office and the current Sheriff.

The order says, "this judgement for a Permanent Injunction shall be entered as to and against the defendants in this action,k who are now and hereby enjoined from enforcing, and continuing to enforce, implement or abide by any policy regarding the issuance of permits to carry concealed weapons (CCWs) to the extent that such policy prohibits non-U. S. citizens who are otherwise qualified, lawful permanent residents of the County of Riverside, and who are not otherwise prohibited from owning firearms, from applying or obtaining a permit to carry a concealed weapon under state law..."

The case was brought by a coalition of various firearms owners groups and Riverside County resident Arie van Nieuwenhuyzen, who is a permanent legal resident alien and who owns a business in Riverside County and who has lived there since 1983.
