An NYPD transit officer fatally shot herself in the head in Midtown Manhattan on Friday, cops said.
The woman was found in the transit police locker room at around 3:10 p.m. inside Transit District 1 in the Columbus Circle subway station near Central Park West and rushed in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the head to Bellevue Hospital, police sources said.
She was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m., police sources said.
Police sources said she was on restricted duty and had her guns taken away from her. She was supposed to return to full duty soon, sources added.
It was unclear how she got the gun she used to shoot herself.
She is the second NYPD officer to take their lives in 2020.
Last year, 10 active-duty NYPD cops took their own lives, double the rate of recent years.
EDITOR’S NOTE: According to the Daily Mail, she swiped another gun from a probationary cop with less than a year on the force. The probationary cop, also a female, faces potential disciplinary action for failure to safeguard her weapon.

That truly sucks.
While tragic, it is understandable. The good men and women of the nypd are constantly under attack by the mayor and feel like they are doing a thankless job with constant criticism from politicians who should be supporting them. Everyone has a breaking point and tragically, this officer apparently reached hers.
Outstanding comment, Anon. Thank you.
Truly tragic.
