DONALD, LISTEN TO YOUR FRIEND GERALDO

Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera tells Trump to ‘understand election is over’

Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera has pleaded with Donald Trump to ‘understand’ that he lost the election to Joe Biden and cease his claims of election fraud to prevent further damaging ‘the fabric of our democracy’.

The conservative commentator, a longtime ally and friend of the outgoing president, made the comments during a Monday broadcast after the Electoral College confirmed Biden as Trump’s successor to the White House.

‘It’s over,’ Rivera said. ‘I want the president, my friend, the current president, the 45th president, to understand it is over.

‘The Electoral College has voted. The longer we drag this out, the more we damage the fabric of our democracy.’

Trump and Rivera together

Rivera once appeared as a contestant on the Celebrity Apprentice when Trump was host of the show. He has long claimed the pair are friends, though said last week Trump is no longer returning his calls

Rivera continued by insisting that Trump should now be ‘taking a victory lap’, celebrating his achievements in office, rather than launching frivolous lawsuits centered on unsubstantiated claims of election fraud.

‘[Trump] should be celebrating the vaccine,’ Rivera insisted, ‘that he almost singlehandedly forced the scientific community to get ready to save millions of lives of Americans.’

The pundit, who once suggested naming the COVID-19 vaccine after Trump, warned that he believes the president’s refusal to concede the election, and repeated challenges of the vote, are damaging his legacy.

Rivera also scolded fervent pro-Trump pundit Charlie Kirk during the same segment for insisting the election was still up for grabs, saying it was ‘so dishonest’ to claim there are still plenty of legal avenues for Trump to pursue. He urged Kirk to ‘stop this’.

Kirk, head of the right-wing college activist group Turning Point USA, dismissed the dozens of Republican voter fraud lawsuits that have been rejected by courts across the nation, affirming he believes Trump supporters still have ‘very good questions’ about the outcome of the election.

‘Some of these by the way are still being played out there—there are still plenty of pending legal challenges,’ Kirk insisted.

The comments prompted Rivera to immediately shoot back: ‘That is so dishonest!’

In retort, Kirk accused Rivera – a longtime friend of Trump’s – of attempting to ‘suppress’ the conversation about the millions of Trump voters who believe the election was ‘stolen’, on account of the unfounded claims of voter fraud peddled by the president.

‘Six weeks!’ Rivera blasted in response. ‘We have litigated this for six weeks. Twice the Supreme Court of the United States rejected it!’

Rivera then pointed out that all three of the Supreme Court Justices appointed by Trump – Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett – denied the president-backed Texas lawsuit seeking to throw out votes from four Biden-supporting states.

‘You have to stop this,’ Rivera asserted to a noticeably taken aback Kirk.

Rivera later pointed out that the outgoing attorney general, William Barr, had even gone on record to say the Justice Department found no evidence of voter fraud that would impact the outcome of the election.

Since the 2020 election concluded, Rivera – a former Celebrity Apprentice contestant – has pushed back against a number of conspiracy theories that have been peddled by Trump and his supporters.

On occasion he has even pushed back against his colleagues at Fox who have given credence to the theories, telling them they’re giving ‘false hope’ to supporters of Trump.

Meanwhile, Rivera also took to Twitter on Monday to urge Trump to exit the White House with dignity.

‘I hope that the president of the United States can have it [in] his heart to put aside this election he has lost,’ he wrote. ‘If he sticks it out any further, or much further, he will really appear as a sore loser.’

Last week, Rivera revealed that Trump is no longer taking his calls after he acknowledged that President-elect Joe Biden won the election.
