THE COST OF BEING AN ASSHOLE

by Bob Walsh

Emanuel Duron is as high school senior .  He is both a wrestler and a standout football defensive lineman at Edinburg (Texas) High School, or at least he was.  A week or so ago he caught a penalty for unnecessary roughness.  He was then thrown out of the game for giving the referee a bad time about it.  He was then arrested for assault because he thought it would be a really good idea to run down the referee (from behind) and slam him into the turf.

He is now disqualified from all athletic activities at the school for the rest of the year.  Both the school and his coach are on probation for all of next year.  Duron is facing charges of assault causing bodily injury.  The ref ended up with a concussion and a banged-up shoulder and had to leave the game.  Even though the team qualified for the playoffs the principle withdrew them from consideration.

The young man does seem genuinely sorry about it.  Whether he was sorry he DID it or is merely sorry he and the school are being punished is an unknown at this time.  I do hope the young man can get his head on straight.
