White House press secretary Jen Psaki called the video of 13-year-old Adam Toledo getting shot by a Chicago police office 'chilling' during Friday's press briefing.
Psaki said she hadn't spoken to President Joe Biden before the morning briefing, so didn't know if he'd watched it, but said it served as a 'reminder' that 'too often in this country law enforcement uses unnecessary force, too often resulting in the death of black and brown Americans.'
She said the shooting was unnecessary after Chicago cops released bodycam footage showing the boy had a gun and dropped it just before the officer opened fire Photos also show a weapon recovered from the scene.
Eric Stillman, 34, was identified as the officer who fired the fatal shot at Toldeo. He is five-year veteran who had never used deadly force prior to the boy's shooting and had no history of disciplinary issues
Psaki reiterated Biden's support for the House-passed police reform bill, George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which is currently stuck in the U.S. Senate. 'The president, again, has repeatedly said that he believes we need police reform,' she told reporters. 'That's what he says he's calling for Congress to send to his desk.'
Psaki also said the White House was also waiting to see how the independent investigation of Toledo's shooting would play out.

Eric Stillman, 34, a five-year veteran on Chicago's police force, has been identified as the cop who shot and killed 13-year-old Adam Toledo during a foot chase on March 29, as seen in newly released body camera video.
Stillman fired a single shot after ordering Toledo to raise his hands and drop a gun. He is then seen frantically trying to revive the teenager.
His lawyer, Tom Grace, said: 'At this point the officer was faced with a life threatening and deadly force situation. All prior attempts to deescalate and gain compliance with all of the officer's lawful orders had failed.'

AOC accused prosecutors of lying after they claimed 13-year-old Adam Toledo was shot dead by an officer while he was holding a gun.

Protests erupted in Chicago after police bodycam video of an officer fatally shooting a 13-year-old boy showed the teen appearing to drop a handgun and raising his hands right before the cop opened fire.
A still frame taken from the 3am footage indicates Adam Toledo, 13, wasn't holding anything and had his hands up when officer Eric Stillman, 34, shot him in the chest following a foot chase on March 29.
Police say the teen had a handgun on him that morning, and that less than a second passed from when Toledo is seen with a gun in hand and when Stillman opened fire.
Bodycam footage shows the officer shining a light on a handgun on the ground near the teen after he shot him.
Earlier footage also appears to show the boy was carrying a gun in the moments before he was shot, throwing it behind a fence before turning to face the cop.

Apparently (from watching the video), the kid drop the gun and raised his hands as ordered by the cop. So it appears the cop should not have shot him.
Gary, on Thursday, Chicago PD released an enhanced video with slow motion and still frames that shows Toledo holding a gun LESS THAN A SECOND before he was shot.
From CBS Chicago: Video shows that the teen stops running near an opening in a fence in an alley, both hands at his side. Police froze the video and inserted a side-by-side image highlighting what they say is a gun in Toledo’s right hand. The officer instructs Adam to show his hands. Adam pivots toward the officer and is shot once in the chest. Police say there was less than a second from the time the gun was in Adam’s hand to the fatal shot.
Gary, whether you choose to believe it or not, that was a righteous shooting.
BGB, you may be correct. Running from the cops with a gun in hand doesn't make him a model citizen for sure. I would point out that it was also only abut a second from when the cop yelled "drop the gun" (which the kid did) to when the cop shot him, so it's not as clear cut to me as it is to you.
Gary, when the kid pivoted toward the officer with the gun still in his hand, it was time for the officer to shoot. The fact that he dropped the gun less than a second before the officer fired makes no difference.
By the way, what was a 13-year-old boy doing out at 3am in the company of a felon? What kind of supervision did he get from his now grieving mother?
BGB, you've convinced me on this one.
