The
city of Portland, OR has decided to augment its now woefully
understaffed police department with........untrained and unarmed park
rangers.
These people are
equipped with a radio and pepper spray. Two of them have already been
chased out of a public park by a man armed with a paint ball gun and a
hatchet.
They mayor, who
is a liberal but not a complete moron apparently, asked for money for
cops. This is what he got. Two dozen new city park rangers. Since the
bullshit started the city has lost 125 officers who have said TO HELL
WITH THIS and gone elsewhere for employment. A significant part of the
city council still wants to get rid of the police more or less
completely, leaving just enough to protect the members of the city
council.
I wonder how long
it will take the first park ranger to walk into something nasty and get
hurt badly or killed. I hope it doesn't happen, but I can't say any
reasonable outcome where it won't happen.
