While traveling weekend I saw where we were passing an item that most people don't know exists.
Being a Texas history buff. I took a detour in deep East Texas down lonely road and found the only remaining Republic of Texas Boundary Marker. It was placed there in 1840.
We
were deep in the bottoms on the border of Texas and Louisiana near town
called Deadwood, Texas. The only thing that has changed near this
location is a thin asphalt road.

This marker was not easy to find. In fact until recently there wasn't a sign posted on FM-31 acknowledging it's existence. It is located on a dirt circle that extends into the woods. Until recently Google didn't have Deadwood, Texas listed. The front of the marker simply reads R.T. for Republic of Texas. The right side has letters that state the Meridian N 7. The bottom right side prominently reads Established A.D. 1840. Once you cross into Louisiana two state signs are posted. I thought it unusual that Texas didn't have a Historical Marker sign placed on the road.
