THE HERD IS GETTING THINNER, AT LEAST IN CALIFORNIA

by Bob Walsh

As you may be aware there is a "gun list" in the formerly great state of California.  If you want to by a new handgun, it must be on a list maintained by the CA DOJ.  This list enumerates guns that are "not known to be unsafe."  Police departments can buy guns not on the list, but private citizens can not.  It is both time consuming and expensive to get guns placed on the list.  It is not possible to have new semi-automatic center fire weapons placed on the list because none can now be placed on the list if they do not microstamp fired cartridges.  In theory this technology exists, in actual practice it does not.

Yesterday Cabela's placed a hammer shrouded 5 shot .38 with built in red laser on it's ad for $199. I wasn't quick enough and no rain checks. There must have been 50 old retired White Privileged farts standing around the gun counter. I Had a good time talking with them. Hell, I had even gone to grade school with a couple of them. There were probably just as many handguns being carried in front of the counter as there were in it.
