Joe
Hedges has been in charge of the grotesque fiasco that is laughingly
called the CA High-Speed Rail Authority. He is now unemployed. He left
with little or no notice. The announcement was made Tuesday as having
been effective Monday.
Nobody
is talking much, but it seems that his departure may be linked to an
investigation triggered by an anonymous letter concerning payments to
contractors for change orders.
The
first construction contract was let in 2013. The state has still not
acquired 150 pieces of property they need merely to complete the segment
from North Buttcrack to South Buttcrack in the Central Valley. The
state is desperate to complete something soon or they face the
possibility of having to refund a shit-ton of money to the feds.
The
state has conceded that there is no possibility the train will be as
fast as was promised in the initial ballot proposition that enabled the
HSR Authority. There are performance requirements that are written into
the law that created the HSR authority. It has met none of them. They
beat one taxpayer lawsuit back a couple of years back when the court
decided that, while it was a clusterfuck it was possibly not an
irretrievable clusterfuck.
I suspect the judge was wrong and I suspect the judge knew he was wrong.
