Nursing home staffers heard blood-curdling screams before discovering an octogenarian covered in blood, standing over a fellow resident he is now charged with murdering, police sources said Saturday.

Clifton Bourne, 87, allegedly fatally beat his elderly neighbor in the victim’s room at the Pinnacle MulticareNursing & Rehabilitation Center in Co-Op City, cops said. The victim, Lloyd Godfrey, was 83-years-old, police said.

Bourne allegedly went into Godfrey’s apartment at the assisted living facility and started pounding Godfrey’s head into concrete, law enforcement sources said.

“There’s no clear and concise reason” for the attack, an NYPD spokesman told The Post Saturday, adding the investigation was continuing.

Both men suffer from dementia, and Bourne was “incoherent and unable to be interviewed” by investigators, police sources told The Post Saturday. The sources said they believe Bourne repeatedly banged Godfrey’s head off the floor, killing him.

A woman who identified herself as Bourne’s ex-wife, refused to believe he could have killed anyone.

“I know him very well. There is no way, no way he would have done something like that. He is scared of his own shadow,” Elise Freeman said Saturday. “They are putting this on him. He is a peacemaker…. Where were the workers? Nobody saw anything?”

Freeman didn’t say how long they were married nor when they got divorced. She would not address whether Bourne had dementia.
