Ronald
and Nerly Papier are high level cops in Miami. Ronald was the acting
chief while the city was hiring it's new chief, Art Acevedo. Nerly has
in the past been something of a golden child, featured on TV and in
print media for this or that piece of wonderfulness. They are both
about to be sacked, and have managed to get some rank-and-file people
splashed with mud in the process.
The
exact details are not fully filled in. About six weeks ago Nerly was
driving a police vehicle to work and she smashed hard into a curb,
flattening both front tires. She continued to drive it to work on the
blown-out tires, further damaging the vehicle. Her husband was acting
chief at the time.
They
both initially were suspended without formal explanation two days after
the accident. A full-blown internal affairs investigation was completed
in less than two months. Such things are often glacial in how they
move. Over 20 witnesses were interviewed.
As
the investigation is still considered to be open the P D isn't talking
much, but it seems the problem is alleged to be failure to follow
procedure and follow the chain of command in dealing with the original
accident.
