GENERAL Michael Flynn is facing calls for a court-martial after he told a QAnon event that a Myanmar-style coup should take place in the US following Donald Trump's election defeat.
Trump's former National Security Advisor made the remarks at the "For God and Country Patriot Roundup" conference held in Dallas, Texas over the weekend.
Flynn, who was pardoned by Trump in 2020, responded: "No reason. I mean, it should happen here."
The retired lieutenant general pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his Russian contacts during the 2016 presidential election.
Social media users were furious as footage of Flynn’s remarks emerged.
One said: “Recall General Michael Flynn to active duty immediately for purposes of court-martial. This must be done ASAP.”
Another called on the Defense Secretary to issue a court-martial.
They said: Hello @SecDef. Can we get a court-martial? Call him back to duty and then dishonorably discharge him. My taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be paying for any of his benefits.”
A third alleged: “I think now might be a good time to call retired officer Michael Flynn back to active duty, court-martial and strip him of his rank and benefits for conspiracy and committing seditious acts against the United States.”
It has been reported that more than 400 people were killed in Myanmar since the coup began on February 1.
The army seized power and detained Aung San Suu Kyi and much of her party leadership, alleging fraud in a November election her party won in a landslide.
The coup, which brought a halt to tentative steps towards democracy after nearly 50 years of military rule, saw hundreds of thousands of protesters take to the streets.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken branded the violence by Myanmar security forces "abhorrent".
In February, he tweeted: We stand firmly with the courageous people of Burma & encourage all countries to speak with one voice in support of their will."
Blinken added the United States "will continue to promote accountability for those responsible".
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on its members to do more.
A BBC journalist, who had been covering the military coup, was abducted by armed thugs while reporting in the state in March.
At least 30 journalists were arrested by the military over their reporting of the coup.
QAnon supporters previously said the Myanmar military coup "should be a lesson" for Biden when troops mobilize.
Believers took to social media to link the military takeover to the situation in the US in the aftermath of the Capitol riots on January 6 just days before Biden was inaugurated.
One wrote: “We will see this headline here soon” and added a link to a news story which in part read “BREAKING Burmese military arrests country’s leaders for committing alleged election fraud”.
Another said: “Sounds like the controlled media and Biden admin are scared this might happen here," as they attached a report from the Reuters news agency.
QAnon is the bizarre conspiracy theory that was tied to the fortunes of former president Donald Trump.
Trump refused to condemn the right-wing group, who believe cannibals and pedophiles secretly control the world and have been involved in a number of violent incidents.
Its supporters claim that the former president communicated about "covert battles" between himself and the Deep State.
The theory centers around an anonymous source, Q, who is trying to tell the world a secret - or multiple secrets, according to NBC.
