Keith
Christopher, 37, of Pittsburg, CA is facing federal charges for his
small business of bringing unauthorized cell phones into the prisoners
on death row in San Quentin prison. The actual charge is conspiracy to
commit honest services fraud using interstate wires.
Two
others are facing charges in the same situation. One of them was a
woman who had a relationship with a death row inmate. That woman,
Tanisa Smith-Symes, is said to have obtained the phones for Officer
Christopher to smuggle. The cells sold for up to $900 in the death row
housing unit. The federal beef is actually a better one to prosecute
than simply smuggling the contraband into the prison.
