The
Dixie Fire, burning in NorCal, has now burned up about 900,000 acres in
seven weeks. It has destroyed 3,000 structures, mostly homes, and
threatens another 56,000 structures, mostly homes. The weather
conditions have favored the fire fighters in the last couple of days but
the fire is still expanding, though not as quickly as it once was.
The
Caldor fire has been burning about half that time, but has burned about
220,000 acres with only 37% containment as of Saturday. It has
destroyed 700 structures, almost all of them homes. It has led to the
evacuation of 5,500 homes including the entire city of South Lake
Tahoe. The ash is already effecting the ecology of the lake. The fire
still threatens over 30,000 homes but favorable weather conditions
Friday gave the firefighters a bit of an edge.
Gavin
Newsom, the God-Emperor of California, is mostly blaming Donald Trump
and climate change for the fire and not his and his predecessors shitty
forest management practices. With luck that lump of ambulatory pond
scum will be history by the end of this month. I am not going to bet on
it, but I am hopeful.
As a
modest side note many of the registrars of voters in CA are taking
extraordinary steps to ensure that the fire fighters get to vote in the
recall election in ten days.

I'm on a FB page from Lake Tahoe. The Hotel Casinos have given refuge to residents and firefighters. It is a sad mess.
