Kara Bell: Texas mom slams school board over anal sex references in library book Kara Bell during the September 15, 2021 Lake Travis ISD board meeting

A dreary school board meeting in Austin, Texas was injected with life in a dramatic fashion, thanks to one mother Kara Bell. On September 15, a regular Lake Travis Independent School District meeting about finances was turned on its head by Bell, who took to the lectern to read a passage from a racy novel and slam the school for focusing on public health and not education. It appears her complaint worked though since the district removed the book from the school's library shelves shortly after.

Bell's dramatic rant is just the latest twist to school board meetings, which have become quite interesting of late. On August 26, the Henrico County Public Schools board meeting was pranked Bart Simpson-style, with guests like Eileen Dover and Suck Mahdick making an appearance. Around the same time, James Akers stripped down to his underwear to support mask mandates at a Dripping Springs Independent School District meeting. On September 9, a Texas woman rapped NWA's 'F--- the Police', complete with the n-word to complain about lyrics being used in English class.

Yet again, Texas' school boards were in the news thanks to Bell. Her dramatic revelation of a book referring to anal sex led the board to cut off the mic, but that didn't stop her from continuing to complain. Eventually, though, her complaint was heard all over the school district. On September 16, the district confirmed it had pulled the book in question from the middle school library shelves, but will conduct a review to see the book's "educational suitability".

Who is Kara Bell?

The Austin mom was born in Ohio and raised in California, according to her campaign website for the Lake Travis ISD. She claims to have moved to Texas "in search of more conservative values." Bell has a psychology major from Arizona State University and reportedly works with children. It's unclear where exactly she works since Bell appears to have deleted her Facebook account. Her tweets are also set to private, so we could not learn more about her.

However, Bell has been named in the media numerous times before. She lost the 2021 school board election, garnering only 25.73% of the vote to incumbent Lauren White. The race wasn't without controversy though. On April 27, The Daily Dot reported that Bell's Twitter was filled with "QAnon beliefs and interacted with proponents of the conspiracy theory." That includes tweets about Bill Gates using aborted tissue to make vaccines. In response to that story, Bell told The Dot, "I am not a 'QAnon' whatever that means."

On April 7, Bell was cited by Sunset Valley police for assault, following a scuffle at a local Nordstrom over the store's mask mandate. Reportedly, Bell tried to enter a dressing room without a mask, which led her to being detained. In response, Bell raised her voice and said, "You are not going to put your disgusting rules on me that are false and not true." It certainly seems as if Bell has a hard time staying away from the spotlight.

'Don't want my kids having anal sex'

During the Lake Travis ISD meeting on September 15, Bell said, "I was going to talk about the need for a second high school, but I was sidetracked by..." She then proceeds to read an extract from 'Out of Darkness' by Ashley Hope Pérez. The extract refers to several sexual acts, including cornholing. "According to Wikipedia, ‘cornhole’ is a sexual slang vulgarism for anus. In verb form to ‘cornhole’, which came into usage in the 1930s, means to have anal sex," she said.

She then proceeds to rant, "I do not want my children to learn about anal sex in middle school. I’ve never had anal sex. I don’t want to have anal sex. I don’t want my kids having anal sex." Bell continues, "I want you to start focusing on education and not public health." At that point, the mic is muted, but Bell continues to rant for a few seconds, to laughter from the crowd. She then walks away while some attendees stand up and applaud her.

A video of the incident is still available to view on Lake Travis' website if you are so inclined. The next day, the board confirmed the book was removed from the Hudson Bend and Bee Cave Middle School libraries. "Lake Travis ISD received a call that there was material of a pornographic nature in our Hudson Bend Middle School library," the board said in a statement. A spokesperson added, "A district may remove materials, because they are pervasively vulgar or based solely upon the educational suitability of the books in question." The spokesperson confirmed the book would be reviewed in the coming days.

Maybe the district can sell the book to a XXX store.

But what if the kids WANT to have anal sex. Would she want to inhibit their personal growth? Seems kind of judgmental.
