As
the bars in the capitol district empties out at about 0200 on Sunday
morning 18 people were shot in Sacramento. Six of them were
fatalities. Four more are in very critical condition. Both the Alcalde
of Pueblo of Sacramento, Darrell Steinberg, and the God-Emperor of
California, Gavin Newsom, would have you believe that two or more
"assault weapons" walked down the street by themselves, indiscriminately
spraying bullets around the streets. It might be hard to believe for
some, but that isn't really what happened.
There
is a significant night life scene in Sac around the capitol. A lot of
bar. More than a few clubs. A couple of very decent hotels. As the
bars were dumping out a fight broke out in front of one of the bars.
Almost immediately thereafter, or possibly even while the fight was
going on, two or more shooters started blasting into the crowd, hitting
eighteen people. A car which may have had one or more of the shooters
in it then left at a high rate of speed. The cops were there almost
immediately and picked up one gun at the scene which may, or may not,
have been used in the shooting.
There
is a ton of cell phone footage and even some official police video from
a police camera near the scene. It would seem that 76 shots were fired
in slightly less than one minute. The cops were still at the scene
almost 24 hours later. 15 hours later the bodies were still laying in
the street. 20 hours later the name of only one victim had been
released. If the cops have any suspects they haven't said. Nobody is
in custody.
The Sacramento
BEE editorial board has already put out an editorial screaming about the
evils of rapid fire assault weapons with high capacity magazines. The
brand new Chief of Police decried the violence, but does not seem to be
an anti-gun psychopath, or if she is she is low profile about it. There
was a lot of talk about an earlier "mass shooting" about two weeks ago,
which was actually a grotty case of domestic violence.
With luck SCOTUS will kick some of these nutters in the nuts on this issue. I am hopeful, but not holding my breath.
