Vanessa Wilson was the Chief of the Aurora, CO P.D. until Wednesday afternoon. She is now unemployed.
She
got the gig in 2020. Her hiring was approved by the mayor and nine of
the ten city council members. Unfortunately she has not impressed a lot
of people along the line with her emphasis on community involvement, to
the detriment of actually running her department.
The
department is budgeted for 744 officers, with 709 currently on the
payroll. This includes 39 trainees and 19 recruits at the academy.
The no-confidence vote was 442 to 16.
Ms.
Wilson was appointed interim chief in January of 2020 when the prior
chief retired. She had been with the department since 1996 and beat out
three other candidates for the top job.
Division
Chief Chris Juul will take over until an interim chief can be named,
followed by a nationwide search for a new top cop. Hopefully this one
will be more interested in managing the department rather than being the
chief community relations officer.

The job isn't all sunshine and lollipops. Sometimes being the Boss can be unpleasant. Adios!
