Governor Kathy Hochul just signed a buttload of gun legislation. So new I am having trouble getting texts of the new laws.
Assuming
the news got it right (a very dangerous assumption) you now need a
special license to buy a semi-automatic rifle which will not be granted
to anybody under 21.
Also you must now demonstrate a job-related need to own or possess soft body armor.
In addition there is now a microstamping requirement for "bullets." If
that is really what the law says it will run the cost of ammunition thru
the roof. IF each individual bullet must be serialized just the record
keeping cost would be astronomical. If that means the weapon must
microstamp the cartridge case that is not QUITE so onerous, but the
record keeping would still be a nightmare.
