The six fatalities of the midair collision at the Dallas air show are pictured below
(Clockwise) Dan Ragan, Terry Barker, Kevin Michels, Len Root, Curtis Rowe and P-63 pilot Craig Hustain (inset) were identified as victims of the Dallas air show tragedy
Death had to be instantaneous for P-63 pilot Craig Hustain, but depending on where they were on the B-17 at the time of the collision, some of the others may have survived for a few moments.
4,735 B-17s were shot down by German fighter planes and anti-aircraft fire or otherwise lost during WW2.

Oh I dunno. I would guess that falling out of the sky dead or mortally wounded isn't something any of them loved to do. (Maybe that's just me).
