Latavia Washington McGee: Mexico kidnapping survivor charged after 'waving gun around' at a girls fight

Latavia Washington McGee was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor 

 

MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA: A South Carolina who narrowly escaped her death after being kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel, is now slapped with charges for bringing a gun to a fight involving two young girls. Latavia Washington McGee, 34, one of four Americans seized by narcotraffickers in March and one of only two to survive the incident, was arrested Friday, February 17, for allegedly taking her daughter to fight another child and waving around “a small black pistol” she pulled from her purse. 

 

McGee was arrested on a warrant stemming from the February 17 incident, prior to the Mexican kidnappings, WMBF-TV News reports. The authorities claimed that McGee took her daughter to an apartment complex on Spivey Street to fight another girl but was suddenly removed from the scene by a relative. However, McGee allegedly returned with her mother and a fight broke out between the kids, the two older women, and relatives of the other child. McGee then pulled the pistol from her bag and “started waving it around.”

Cops later issued the warrant for McGee on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a child. “This charge was in no way related to the torture and death that [McGee] went through,” her lawyer, Mark Simmons, told Daily Mail. “We believe that the police department was doing its job. We are grateful for the hard work the police department does, but we do look forward to the charge being dismissed.”

McGee and three friends, Eric James Williams, Shaheed Woodward, and Zindell Brown traveled to Mexico for McGee to have a cosmetic surgery procedure when they stumbled into a cartel turf war. The group, later dubbed “the tummy tuck four” was seen on video being forced into a truck in what authorities believed was a case of mistaken identity. Woodward and Brown were later killed and Williams was wounded in the leg before they were found. Authorities said McGee was left traumatized but was not physically injured.

Meaww previously reported that Latavia "Tay" McGee and Eric Williams claim that the cartel mistook them for drug smugglers from Haiti and that after realizing their error, they released the two survivors. They said that during their captivity, their captors tried to force them into having sex with each other in an interview with CNN. Williams mentioned that the cartel "stitched him up" on a table after he had a leg injury. "They tried to make us have sex with each other but we told them we were brother and sister and that she was pregnant," Williams stated. "They was like, 'What are y'all?' We said brothers and sisters and they was like 'have sex with each other,'" McGee stated. "I was like no, these are my brothers I’m pregnant."
