McDonald's has finally revealed why it does not have records to verify Vice President Kamala Harris' claim that she worked at one of its restaurants in the 1980s.

In a memo emailed to McDonald's USA franchisees the corporation confirmed that while Harris had 'fond memories' of working at a location in Alameda County, 'we and our franchisees don't have records for all positions dating back to the early '80s.'

A copy of the internal letter was posted by an anonymous McDonald's franchise on social media and confirmed by the Wall Street Journal.

During a rally with fast food workers in 2019, Harris said she used to work at McDonald's in college

In April 2024, during an interview with the Drew Barrymore show, Harris repeated her claim that she 'did fries' at the restaurant.

The Harris campaign has since stated that Harris worked at the Central Avenue McDonald's location in Alameda, California, in 1983 during the summer after her freshman year at Howard University.

However, the campaign has been unable to provide evidence to prove the vice president's claim, such as a photo, a pay stub, or a fellow employee that can confirm her employment.

Employees at the franchise in Alameda, California, told the Telegraph they have been sworn to secrecy not to speak about Harris to reporters.

An employee said 'I'm sorry, I don't have any information,' when DailyMail.com contacted them on Monday to ask if Harris had ever worked at the franchise location.

Harris never spoke about working for McDonald's until she ran for president and protested with fast food workers in 2019 to raise the minimum wage.

A copy of her job resume she submitted after college does not include any information about her job at McDonald's, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

The Harris campaign has used her claim about working at McDonald's to demonstrate her working class credentials.

'You have a vice president who always thought of the middle class...when she was in college she had a job at McDonald’s while she was getting her degree,' Deputy Communications Director Brooke Goren told reporters at the Democratic National Committee in June.

Another staffer referred to her journey from McDonald's to the vice presidency as 'the incarnation of the American dream.'

Donald Trump has focused on Harris' claim of working at McDonald's, suggesting she lied about it.

The former president visited a McDonald's in Pennsylvania on Sunday, putting on an apron, and making several batches of fries in the kitchen.

He then served food to customers at the drive-thru service window.

'I've now worked for 15 minutes more than Kamala at McDonald's,' he told reporters and customers after his visit.

The memo from McDonald's said the business 'does not endorse candidates for elected office.

The corporation allowed Trump to make his visit because of its 'core values' to 'open our doors to everyone.'

Harris campaign officials did not subsequently offer any new evidence to back her claim to have worked at McDonald's.

When the Vice President was asked by a reporter on Monday if she ever worked at the fast food franchise, Harris replied, 'Did I? Yes, I did.'
