It has now been a few days since Senile Joe wrote his son an unprecedented, wide-ranging get-out-of-jail-free card. His move blew up in the face of many of his supporters who had been crowing about how wonderful he was for refusing to pardon his son and how this demonstrated his commitment to the rule of law. So, what will the fallout be?
My suspicion, for what that might be worth to you, is that it is going to be considerable on both the short and medium term.
A lot of people are responding, "So What. He lied. All politicians lie. It is to be expected." Others are responding that he legitimately changed his mind. (Kind of like his decision to stay in the race then bail out. I wonder if Hunter left a metaphorical horses head in Joe's bed.) Joe's statement, which seems to blame his own DOJ for being unfair to Hunter, is being largely ignored as nonsensical. A few (damn few) are making noises that they now think Joe is a hypocritical turd and that this move by him will pretty much destroy his legacy and will make it much, much harder for them to oppose Trump in what will probably be his actions towards the January 6 "insurrectionists."
One thing for sure, Joe has lost the moral high ground not only for himself but to a large extent for his party as well. Will this matter in two years? Will it matter in four years? Yeah, I think it will.
