61 Chicagoans were shot with 8 of them fatally this past weekend
CBS Chicago reports that sixty-one people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, eight of them fatally. The bloodshed made for the second most violent weekend of the year in Chicago, and the second weekend this month at least 60 people were shot.
Chicago cops shut down 68 gatherings over the weekend for illegal activity, seized 83 guns, and arrested 29 people on gun charges, but that did not stop the carnage in the city with some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. Good for them, but while they were shutting down those 68 gatherings and made those 29 busts, the gangbangers went merrily along their way blasting each other.
So much for Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s recent plan of putting more cops in Chicago’s black neighborhoods on weekends to curtail the shootings. It took Rahm weeks to come up with that plan so he probably does not have a Plan B.
One of those killed was 15-year-old Steven Rosenthal, who authorities say shot himself in the head while fleeing police Friday evening. His family doesn’t buy the suicide claim and believes he was shot by the cops. Police have said ballistics and camera evidence shows no officers fired their weapons, but the department has not said if it will release body camera video.
Bienvenidos a Juarez … err, I mean Chicago.

There is something to be said for consistency.
