On Sunday, Elizabeth de la Rosa, 26, mother of infant “Tadeo”, succumbed to burn wounds over 90% of her body. She died only 9 days after returning to Jalisco from a University of Texas hospital burn center.

Elizabeth and her husband were warned that her transfer back to Mexico would be exceedingly dangerous. The family decided on the transfer to bolster her emotional state. She was transferred by private plane to the Guadalajara Reconstructive Hospital.

Elizabeth arrived at the world-renowned Texas burn center on June 8th, 18 days after the May 21st attack. The state of Jalisco funded the bill which is estimated at 1.7 million USD.

Elizabeth and her 8-month-old son Tadeo, were aboard a bus in Mariano Otero, Zapopan, a suburb of Guadalajara, when around 8:30pm as the bus approached the intersection of Mariano Otero and Las Torres avenues, at which time a CJNG commando of hooded men entered the bus and order the passengers off. But the rear door did not open. The commando sprayed gas inside the bus and set it afire. It was engulfed in flames as people were still exiting through the front door.

Elizabeth managed to escape, with her baby in her arms, however the baby died from his wounds the following day.

9 other passengers suffered burns and inhalation injuries.

The CJNG commando burned the bus to created a roadblock, one of three roadblocks with burning vehicles they created in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara in order to distract the authorities and allow CJNG assassins to flee after the failed attack against the former prosecutor and current Secretary of State Labor, Luis Carlos Najera.
