STILL FIRE SEASON

by Bob Walsh

Yes, it is well into November and we are still in fire season in the formerly great state of California. There is right now a decent size (about 5,000 acre) fire burning in Butte County. The wind is up, the humidity is down. PG&E is getting ready to start cutting power to some of the areas so that their equipment does not cause fires and get them sued.

There is so much dead foliage due to a seven year drought in CA and so many dead trees due to a bark beetle infestation due to the trees being weakened by drought that the fires just burn all over the damn place. The state has already blown thru most of their emergency firefighting budget and we are less than half way thru the fiscal year.

I am, by nature, an urbanite. There are times when I am very happy to be an urbanite. Urban fire storms are rare.
