President Donald Trump's national security adviser said Wednesday that the U.S. deems the uprising in Venezuela to be a Western affair and outside actors must leave the South American country immediately.
John Bolton told White House reporters Wednesday morning that Trump is returning to the Monroe Doctrine and will be exerting its influence to stabilize Venezuela.
'We've made it very clear the Monroe Doctrine is alive in this administration. We expect foreign influences to depart,' he said.
Bolton directed his contempt to Russia. He said the U.S. has evidence that Vladimir Putin's government convinced Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro not to flee the country and make way for a peaceful transition of power.
'This is our hemisphere. It's not where the Russians should be interfering,' Bolton asserted. 'This was a mistake on their part.'
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that President Trump 'has been very clear' that he is prepared to take military action in Venezuela 'if that's what's required', raising the prospect of conflict with Russia which is a staunch ally of President Nicolas Maduro and is thought to have mercenaries in the country protecting him.
Pompeo spoke out Wednesday as opposition leader Juan Guaido, who America is backing, urged demonstrators on to the streets for a second day, after he declared the start of a 'military uprising' on Tuesday. That quickly descended into a series of violence skirmishes on the streets of the capital Caracas and elsewhere that left at least one dead and 100 injured.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Juan Guaido keeps urging his supporters to take to the streets but he was not leading the protesters when the authorities took action against his mob.
On the other hand Hitler and Göring had the courage to be at the head of the SA mob when the German authorities opened fire during the 1923 Munich Putsch.
