COP'S ESTATE SUES KILLER

by Bob Walsh

John Raynor was 26 years old and was a Daytona Beach Florida police officer when he was shot on June 23.  On that day we was allegedly shot to death by Othal Wallace.  Wallace was later arrested in Georgia, hiding in a tree house.  Wallace is currently being prosecuted for capital murder.  Officer Raynor died of his injures 55 days after being shot.

The firm of Bichler and Longo, a law firm that specializes in representing first responders, is suing Wallace on behalf of the estate.   Wallace supporters have raised almost $50,000 on-line to help with his defense.  If the lawsuit is successful it could go after that money.  Other than the defense fund Wallace has no significant assets.  Wallace is currently represented by the public defender.

The suit is for $5 million.  In addition the city might join in the suit to recover their expenses beyond their insurance for Officer Raynor's medical costs, which will run about $1 million.
