Family of four found fatally shot inside torched Houston home

After Houston firefighters extinguished the fire in this home they found the four bodies that had been shot

 

Two adults and two children were found fatally shot at a Houston home after firefighters put out a blaze, police said.

The bodies of the four victims were found following a fire at the residence early Sunday in southwest Houston, where no signs of forced entry were discovered, Police Chief Troy Finner told reporters.

“I’m angry about it,” Finner said at a press conference. “I’m angry when anybody loses their life in our city to violence, but especially angry when it’s small kids. They haven’t even lived their lives – and it’s just not fair.”

Finner called on the suspect or suspects responsible for the quadruple homicide during a suspected act of domestic violence to turn themselves into investigators, who do not believe the slayings were random.

“There’s no sign of forced entry from the outside,” Finner continued. “We suspect it is a domestic case right now, but the investigation is early on – we haven’t even able to talk to next of kin. We’re trying to do that right now.”

The bodies appeared to be that of a man and a woman in their 50s and their children – a 10-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, the Houston Chronicle reported.

It’s unclear when the shootings occurred, but Finner said the fire may have been set to get rid of evidence at the scene.

“They try to destroy evidence and whatnot by setting a fire, but I don’t think it worked to their benefit right now,” Finner said, without elaborating.

The police chief said he “felt good” about information investigators had gathered from the residence, but no arrests had been reported in the case as of late Sunday. A message seeking comment from Houston police was not immediately returned Monday.

Neighbors of the victims, meanwhile, told KHOU the four relatives had lived together at the home. One man who lives on the street said he didn’t hear any gunshots, but saw billows of smoke emanating from their home.

“I knocked on the door,” neighbor Jesús Lara said. “I hit it and I couldn’t open it because smoke was coming out of it. At that moment, the firefighters arrived, broke it and went inside.”

Lara said he saw a woman who lived at the home regularly walking her children to school.
