Megyn Kelly calls Colin Kaepernick 'racist guy who hates America' over Netflix show
Colin Kaepernick is no stranger to controversy. Over the past few years, he's annoyed everyone from former President Donald Trump to Joe Scarborough. Megyn Kelly has become just the latest in a long line of conservatives to slam the former NFL star, who has been making waves with his new Netflix show 'Colin in Black & White'.
The social activist has been attempting to make a return to professional football in recent months but has so far come up short. In January 2020, the injury-plagued Detroit Lions opted not to turn to him for help, and instead drafted in two younger players. Out of work and with little prospects, he's now shifted his attention to the media. Along with Netflix, Kaepernick also signed deals with Disney and ESPN for a docuseries of his life.
'Colin in Black & White' is the first of the many expected films and series Kaepernick will create. It was released on Netflix on October 29, and just under a week later has already become a massive talking point. While many have praised the show, plenty has slammed it. At the center of the controversy is his problematic comparison of the NFL drafting process to slavery.
'No boundary respected'
In the series, there is one part where Kaepernick says, "What they don’t want you to understand, is what’s being established is a power dynamic. Before they put you on the field, teams poke, prod, and examine you. Searching for any defect that might affect your performance." he adds, "No boundary respected, no dignity left intact." Viewers then see a Black man being auctioned off before the auctioneer shakes hands with an NFL coach.
The comparison was quick to draw swift condemnation, not just from the internet but also from Ex-NFL star Jack Brewer himself. Brewer famously said his show should be "illegal" because of its "anti-American spirit." Adding to that, Kelly has now weighed in with some equally harsh condemnation. On November 3, Kelly was joined by the hosts of the 'Ruthless' podcast to discuss the Netflix show, and here's what she had to say.
'He really is a racist guy and he HATES our country'
"Colin Kaepernick…he’s insane," Kelly began her rant. "This is a racist guy. He really is a racist guy and he HATES our country. He hates America." She went on to say, "It’s just another day that Netflix gives this guy his own special. And I’m like 'well I guess it’s going to be about how racist America is.' Turns out it’s how racist Colin Kaepernick is." Kelly added, "Who made him show up to the NFL Combine? To compare that willing and usually dream come true moment for an NFL football player to SLAVERY? How does this wind up on Netflix?"
She then played the clip from the show, and responded, "Well duh. Isn’t that important to know? If there is a defect?" Kelly then went on to slam Netflix, saying, "Comparing 43 million dollars to being a slave is a real F-you America moment and I think it’s an F-you Colin Kaepernick moment. I can’t believe somebody at Netflix didn’t get up and walk their a**es out over this b------t propaganda about our country, the NFL, White people in general. This is outrageous."
The full segment is about six minutes long, and you can see it here below:
After playing the clip, Kelly's guests then continue to slam Kaepernick, with one of them saying, "it denigrates the history of slavery." Despite the widespread condemnation, neither Netflix nor Kaepernick have issued an apology or an explanation for the problematic comparison. In fact, it's still visible on the show.
