Katie Valenzuela Katie
Valenzuela is a member of the Sacramento City Council. She is
nominally a Democrat and is a self-described socialist. She is also the
target of a recall attempt.
She
was elected in 2020. Her district has since been redrawn. The city
attorney has decreed that only voters from her previous district lines
and not those in her current district lines can vote in the recall as
they were the ones who sent her to office in the first place.
She
was served with one recall notice while she was walking her dog. There
were some legal deficiencies in that one and she was served a second
time immediately after the press conference after the Sacramento
shooting of 18 people on April 3. She cried a lot during the press
conference. Mayor Darryll Steinberg pissed and moaned about how
horrible it was that they served her under those circumstances and
decried their priorities. I guess wanting to get rid of a Socialist in
your city government is a nothingburger to Steinberg.
The
recall proponents hope to get the matter on the November ballot. There
is some difference of opinion about the deadline. The city clerk is
telling the proponents they have only until the middle of May to get the
signatures in. The recall committee people assert that they have until
August.
Ms. Valenzuela believes the recall to be "abusive." Waah Waah Waah.
