There may not be a lot of legislative proposals coming
out of New York I can say that about, especially when the pee on
somebody's parade. This may be an exception.
The
New York legislature is working on a bill that would require that
restaurants that operate on highway rest stops must be open seven days a
week. Some people are calling this the I HATE CHIK-fil-A bill. As you
probably know the people who own and run the chain are committed
Christians and close down on the Sabath.
Personally
I don't give a hoot when private businesses are open and when they are
not. Usually. But when you are operating in a closed environment, like
the only game in town at an airport or a highway rest stop, on the
basis of a concession, maybe you should be open when the traveling
public is likely to need you. Right now the chain operates the
concession at seven highway rest stops in New York. The current
contract does NOT require that they operate seven days a week.
The
proposal is likely to require that any and all such concessionaires
must operate seven days a week. Under the circumstances I think that
may be a reasonable requirement.
