The volcano that all the experts
said was getting ready to erupt did in fact erupt in the wee hours of
the morning, opening a fissure about 2 1/2 miles long and blowing molten
lava 300 feet into the air.
The
volcano in question is on the Reykjanes Peninsula fairly near the
capitol city of Reykjavik. It blew at about 2:17 p.m. Pacific Coast
time. The majority of the lava is heading east towards the teeming
metropolis of Fagradalsfjal with two additional streams heading towards
places with similarly unprononcable names. They are anticipating
volcanic gas may start effecting the capital in a day or so.
