The Maine Board of Environmental Protection was supposed
to take a vote yesterday. The object of the exercise was whether or not
Maine would, for all practical purposes, outlaw the sale of gas powered
cars and trucks in Maine. Specifically the amount of gas cars would be
cut back to 43% of all cars sold in 2027, gradually increasing to 82%
of the total by 2032.
The
vote was delayed. The cause of the delay was the governor, Janet Mills
(D), declared a SOE due to....here it comes....wait for it....a
widespread power failure to to weather.
The vote has yet to be rescheduled.
Please
not that this decision is not being made by the legislature but by
non-elected bureaucrats. The members are appointed by the governor and
do not necessarily have any business or technical acumen in the field.
