Gaston Glock passed on to whatever comes next this week at the age of 94. He was an Austrian engineer with zero firearms design experience who had probably the biggest effect on the firearms business since John Moses Browning. For 20 or 30 years his handguns got almost to the same point that the iconic .38 special had in police service in this country, though his effect was more world-wide. At one time over half of the new police guns in this country were made by Glock. Dude built the better mousetrap.
