Arica Hutchison was one of two
officers who sorted thru the Crime Stoppers tips since 2018. She had
access to the data base. From August 2023 thru February of 2024 she
entered false data into that database and set up a person identified as
KB to receive rewards offered thru the program.
On
January 10 the FBI conducted a surveillance operation and observed
Hutchison pass money to KB. Over a period of time Hutchison passed
$18,500 to KB. It seems that she manipulated the data base so it
appeared that KB was the first person in line to get the money. She was
placed on admin. leave in February of 2024 and resigned in April of
2024, while under investigation.
On
June 3 she was charged in federal court. She copped the same day. Two
weeks ago she was sentenced to six months in custody, two years
supervised release and $22,000 in restitution plus counselling and
substance abuse treatment.
Strangely
enough once the media started poking around they discovered that the
only records the MPD had on Hutchison indicated that she had been a cop
for 17 years and was no longer a cop. That was all. KB has yet to be
identified, at least to publicly accessible records.
