This
morning (Thursday) the Dept. of Justice filed suit in federal court in
California in opposition to California Proposition 50. I haven't read
the federal filing but broadcast news reports assert that the cause of
action is racially based gerrymandering. Since the political hack to
actually drew the map has stated up front that tweaking the map to favor
Hispanics and fuck republicans was the basic criteria in the first
place it would seem that all that is necessary for truth and justice to
prevail is to demonstrate that tweaking the maps for racial-ethnic
advantage or disadvantage is a voting rights act issue.
Nothing is ever that simple, but I am hopeful that this hack job will never be actually used.
The federal suits filed by candidate Steve Hilton and the Republican Party are still operational as well.
